Joao Mariano Saldanha: Born in Uatu-Lari, Timor-Leste on February 12. Endured hardship, bloodshed, and bombardments of Mt. Matebian in 1977. After primary school in Uatu-Lari, he went on to study in secondary school in Dili during the Portuguese period before it was disrupted by war. Only continued school in early 1980s briefly in Dili and Baucau before going on to Malang, Indonesia on scholarship to study high school. BA in Economics, Satya Wacana University, Master of Int'l Management, Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management (USA), Non-Degree Graduate Program in Political Economy and Government, Harvard University, and Ph.D in Economic Development, University of California at San Diego. Lecturer of Economics at Atmajaya Catholic University and Krida Wacana University in Jakarta and at Universidade Nasional Timor Lorosae. Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, Oxford University, and Australian National University. Director, Timor Institute of Development Studies. Member of Concelho Estado RDTL. Senior Adviser, Policy Analysis and Research, Ministry of Finance. President of Partidu Republikanu (PR). President of Xanana Gusmao Foundation.
